Jackson County Fair

On Wednesday last week, I took the kiddos to the Jackson County Fair so they could help Pa-paw and Aunt Lisa show the sheep.

As with much of the rest of the nation, it was super-duper hot that day. Reba was trying to keep cool with a rag on her head This little girl loves to be center of attention
She also loves the camera
I had one of the world famous lemonade shake-ups from the fair, the kiddos liked the lemons that came in it

Then, it was time for the show. Pa-paw even brought a ewe for Dallas to show! (with some help from Momma)

Dallas did a great job of holding the lead of the halter
I told Dallas to follow Pa-paw when it was time to do the "parade lap"...I forgot to mention that he was to stay close to his ewe
Can you tell he was really into helping?

We had to take a snack break after showing (yes, the kiddos wore their cowboy boots with shorts)
Pa-paw ended the night with Supreme Ram! Dallas decided to name the ram "Lightening" (I'm guessing after Lightening McQueen)
Dallas and Reba then left with Gram and Pa to spend the rest of the week and weekend at their house. Doug and I have been working on unpacking the remaining boxes since we don't have little hands "helping"

Until next time...

Vanderburgh County Fair

On Tuesday night, we took the kiddos to the fair in Evansville.  We had a lot of fun, even if it was HOT!

I don't know what it is, but my kiddos LOVE the goats!
Dallas also really like the turkeys
Reba was just interested in hanging on the gates in the "petting zoo"

Then, Daddy picked her up so she could reach the pony (or is it a miniature horse?)
Of course, the pony wasn't good enough for Dallas, he had to go for the farther reach and pet the donkey.
More goats
The petting zoo was put together by the local FFA chapter, they also had this beautiful water feature and flower area, I supplied the beautiful little girl.
We then found some ice cream to help get cooled down
A fair isn't a fair without a funnel cake!
Dallas was excited that we let him ride the carousel
Reba not so much
Until next time...

Fun Friday Foto

Remember on Monday Memories when I commented on Dallas and his beloved Teddy?  Well, I was able to capture this picture of them the other night.
And, the "pound puppy" in the picture.  Well, that was mine when I was a kid.  My mom made them for my sisters and I one year.  It even has the PP logo like this near the tail!

Until next time...

Wordless Wednesday - My new storage box

Well, Almost Wordless Wednesday - check out my new storage box to hold my greeting cards, envelopes, and stamps...

Did you guess that the box started like this...
I was inspired to try this from Katie @On the Banks of Squaw Creek.  Check out her post on how-to make your own storage box!

Until next time... (I'm making some more boxes to hold my toiletries stock-pile!)

We Passed!

Just a little update to my rant last week...

Doug and I went to the license branch this afternoon to take our written exams in order to get Indiana drivers licenses...and well, we both passed!  We now have valid IN drivers licenses - of course, you got to love the new way they make you take the picture.  I was also able to get Lily's (my car) title and registration switched over tonight as well.

We celebrated by taking the kiddos to the Vanderburgh County Fair.  (photos to come later)  All in all, it was a great night.

Until next time...

Monday Memories

I sure hope my "followers" are enjoying these posts.  I think it is a lot of fun to look back and stroll down memory lane.  Here we go for this week...

1 year ago - Reba learning to pull herself up

2 years ago - Dallas and the Boys

3 years ago- Dallas at 4 months old.  Side note: In this post you will see Dallas with his beloved Teddy.  That poor bear doesn't look so nice and fluffy anymore.  I was going to try and get a picture of him and Teddy after he went to bed, but he's not wanting to drift off to dream land so quickly...I'll have to try another time.

Until next time...

Sunday Funny

I got the follow message last week from one of my aunts.  Funny how God sends you a reminder at just the right time in life.  My oldest child has been a bit of a challenge this last week and a half.  It must be the "terrible threes" kicking in because he has not wanted to listen and/or follow directions at all.  I love him dearly, and I know this too shall pass.  Enjoy.

GOD created children, and to those of us who have children in our lives, whether they are our own, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or students...here is something to make you chuckle.

Whenever your children are out of control,
you can take comfort from the thought that
even God's omnipotence did not extend
to His own children.

After creating heaven and earth,
God created Adam and Eve.
And the first thing he said was, 'DON'T!'

'Don't what?' Adam replied.

'Don't eat the forbidden fruit.' God said.

'Forbidden fruit? We have forbidden fruit?

Hey Eve! We have forbidden fruit!'
'No, way!'

'Yes, way!'

'Do NOT eat the fruit!' said God.

'Why?' replied Adam and Eve.

'Because I am your Father and I said so!' God replied,
wondering why He hadn't stopped creation after making the elephants.
A few minutes later, God saw His children having an apple break and He was ticked!

'Didn't I tell you not to eat the fruit?' God asked.
'Uh huh,' Adam replied.

'Then why did you?' said the Father.

'I don't know,' said Eve.

'She started it!' Adam said.
'Did not!'

'Did too!'

'DID NOT!'

Having had it with the two of them,
God's punishment was that Adam and Eve
should have children of their own.
Thus the pattern was set and it has never changed.

If you have persistently and lovingly tried to give children wisdom and they haven't taken it, don't be hard on yourself.

If God had trouble raising children, what makes you think it would be a piece of cake for you?
Until next time...

Excuse me, while I rant...

Usually, I have a decent luck at the BMV.  Last night was the exception.

Doug took off work early so we could finally go get our new license, transfer the vehicle titles, and get new plates for the vehicles.  We arrived at 6:05 p.m. (because I initially missed the turn); the branch was to close at 7 p.m.  As we walk in I notice there weren't too many people sitting in the waiting area, and they had each station staffed with BMV personnel!  It was looking to be a good night.

I stepped up to the check-in counter, smile on my face, and state that we are needing to get new licenses and plates, as we just moved *wink* to Indiana.  The lady at the counter turns to look at the clock and says, something along the lines of, you won't be able to do that today because you will have to take the written exam, and we stop administrating them 1 hour before the branch closes.  Are you kidding me?!?!  It's 6:05...55 minutes before close!

She proceeds to say that we can go ahead and switch the vehicles and passes us along to another staff personnel to set up our file.  After sitting down to explain what I'm needing, the lady asks if both vehicles are "here".  I said, "Here? As in the parking lot, here?"  "Yes," was her reply.  I said "No, we only drove one vehicle here."  She then goes on to tell me that she can only transfer and plate the vehicle that is in the parking lot because she has to do a VIN check.  Again, are you kidding me!?!?

OK, so it is just about a wasted trip at this point, but at least we can get ONE thing done.  Forty-five minutes later, the gal tells me that my total due is $300 plus!  I said, "Excuse me?"  I went on to ask when my renewal date will be because that must be a full years price for the truck.  (In Iowa, we got to choose what month we wanted to renew our plates, but I was pretty sure Indiana had a system that was alphabetical by last name.  Bergman should be toward the beginning of the year...right?  It should be a pro-rated price...right?)  She goes on to say that we will renew our plates in February; that $300-something is pro-rated!  Are you kidding me?!?!

I go on to say that if $300-something is for 7 months, I am really going to HATE the price for 12 months.  I go on to say, in Iowa, we only paid $65.50 a YEAR for plates for the truck.  She then gasps, and says she must have forgot to check a box stating that we were new residents.  She then calls the "team leader" over to have her void the transaction, and she does it again - remembering to check the appropriate box.  My new total was $110-something.  Much better; still a lot higher than Iowa, but better.

So, it's now 7 p.m., we have the plates and registration in hand for the truck; and an Indiana driver's manual in the other hand so we can study before taking the written exam to get our license.  Wish us luck!

Until next time...

What have we been up to...

We have just been trying to survive the heat this week.  The end of last week was awesome here in Southern Indiana, the temps dropped back to the high 80's and the humidity finally fell.  This week, we are back into the 90's with ridiculous humidity.  Oh well, the kiddos are enjoying the pool!  Now for some pictures...

Remember that smirk I mentioned in yesterday's post?  I captured it today...just look at how similar they are!!!
oh, and the bunny ears...the kiddos found those while I was unpacking a box and have been wearing 'em since.

This was last Monday at Dallas' follow up for his latest double ear infection.  While waiting on Dr. Alex, Dallas asked for me to take his picture with Reba (well, not in so many words, but you get the idea)
Reba helped me clip some coupons one day (Dallas was away visiting Gram and Pa for the week)
When Dallas came home, he also brought along his new quilt.  He actually got it this past Christmas from Great Aunt Pat, but he didn't have a bed to put it on until recently.  We then let Aunt Pat borrow it so she could enter it in the county fair.  Needless to say, Dallas LOVES having his new quilt on his bed!
One morning I decided to put a headband on Reba - look at how much older she looks!
Saturday evening we headed to the Posey County Fair to see the truck and tractor pulls and to take in some more fair food!  Unfortunately for us, it was the last day of the fair and pretty much everything was gone - except this JD 730 LP.  Dallas wanted to take his picture on it to show Pa.
Reba wetting her whistle during the pulls.
We were surprised at how much the kiddos enjoyed the pulls.  They both sat on the bleachers with Doug and I and smiled and cheered the entire time!

That's all for now.  I have to go apply some make-up to be ready for my drivers license picture.  We are finally going to get them this evening...here's to hoping it turns out somewhat decent.

Until next time...
