Jackson County Fair 2015

After the sheep show at Evansville, Pa-paw and Ma-maw took the sheep to their house so they could take them to Brownstown a few days later.  Julianne had missed them a little!
Doug and I got to the fairgrounds around noon, and let me tell you it was hot!  About an hour before the show was to start, a small storm cell moved through.  It dumped quite a bit of rain in a small amount of time, but it also cooled the temps dramatically!

Dallas was in charge of holding onto one side of the tent (we were set up on blacktop so there was no way to anchor the tents)
Julianne thought it was fun to play in the rain
Pa-paw and the drowned rat
It got crowded under the tent during the rain, so the kiddos set their chairs on the trim table to save some room
Once the rain stopped, and we were done trimming, we found some of that delicious church booth food for supper.  Julianne then really enjoyed her cookie for dessert.  I think she was even trying to save some for later!

Reba helped Pa-paw and Aunt Lisa in the yearling ram class
Dallas and Ice Cube won the ram lamb class!

Crackerjack was the only one in his class
We had our two ewe lambs and Pa-paw/Aunt Lisa had their two ewe lambs.  The judge really shook up the placings tonight!  The lamb Dallas shows (Elizabeth) won the class, and Doc (the lamb we all really like, placed 3rd!
Dallas and Elizabeth also won champion Dorset, so they were in the grand drive!
It was a tough line up, and unfortunately, we didn't win.  It was still a fun night, and we actually were loaded and off the fairgrounds the earliest we have ever been.
Until next time...

Jackson County Fair

Yesterday, we spent the day at our favorite county fair!  Enjoy the photos from our day and evening at the fair.  Thanks to Ma-maw for manning my camera and capturing the memories!

Dallas walked Sparkler by himself during the class, but Daddy helped hold her when standing in line.

Although, Pa-paw wasn't willing to let her take home the big banners...

Jackson County Fair 2013

As I mentioned previously, we had to get the sheep up to Pa-paw's house so he could take them to a few more fairs for us.  The first one on the list was the Jackson County Fair.  We have been showing sheep at this particular fair for over 20 years, and we absolutely love going back!

This year, we decided to let the kiddos try the youth halter lead (pee-wee lead) class.  They had been working so hard with training the sheep at our house, and we wanted them to experience showing on their own.

We started out by getting the girls out to walk and calm down before entering the ring.

Finally, it was time for the class to start! Unfortunately, Dallas got knocked down by another youngster on his way into the ring and fell in a cow patty.  In the process, he bumped Reba, causing her to loose hold of Rebecca!

Once, Dallas got in the ring, he did great!
Reba decided she didn't like following everyone else in the class, thus passing them all in the parade laps!
Neither Dallas nor Reba won, but I think they enjoyed the experience.
Once the open show started, Little Miss was more concerned with smiling for the camera than watching the show
But when it was time for the lamb class, she was all business - helping Momma show Rebecca.

Again...smiling for the camera!

Not sure if Dallas was upset with Daddy, upset with his placing, or just not wanting to smile...

Until next time...

Sheep Showing

At the end of July, the kiddos were able to help Pa-paw and Aunt Lisa at a couple different sheep shows.  The first one was at the Jackson County Fair.  We had a nice little surprise when some of our extended family showed up to watch!

Reba showed George Martin "her" sheep
Dallas had a grand time "tractor pulling" on the sheep trim table!
Not really sure what this look was all about...

Hey Reba, Smile for the judge!
Helping Aunt Lisa
We figured up that night, that we have been showing at the Jackson County open show for 18 (or more) years.  This was the first time we came home with the Supreme Ewe!
A few days after the Jackson County show, we were at the Morgan County Fair!  Reba wasn't feeling very well, so she stayed ring-side while Dallas helped in the ring...

Dallas is trying to figure out how this is going to turn out
Dallas fell in love with "Baby" the ewe lamb; thankfully, she was pretty tame and let Dallas "show" her

This is how Reba spent most of the show...
After the show was over, we stopped at Steak 'n Shake for supper...once Reba got a little applesauce in her, she was back to her old self!
Until next time...
