We headed back to the tractor show today, and we weren't there long when we ran into our friend Michael and his son. Declan asked to go for a ride on the lawn mower, and Doug just couldn't deny his request. Of course, my littles wanted to go along too.
In the afternoon, there were old fashioned games including a tug of war, and (Reba's favorite) the coin search. That's where they toss in hand fulls of coins into a pile of straw and the let the kiddos search. What they find, they keep.
Reba ended up finding 4 quarters this year. Not quite as many as last year, but she still had fun.
Julianne started out in the stroller to watch, but after a few minutes, that wasn't good enough for her...
Sugar didn't find any coins, but she sure had fun tossing the straw around!
Earlier in the week, Doug and I were trying to decide if we wanted to attend the Rushville Steam Show or the Greensburg Power of the Past Show this summer. We have been so busy lately, that we weren't sure if we wanted to be on the road this weekend again, but the weather was to be awesome to be out at the tractor show. Plus, we could enjoy an extra day at Rushville since the kiddos aren't in school yet. With Greensburg still 2 weeks away, we don't know what the weather will be like, plus it would be somewhat the same situation with traveling multiple weekends in a row - the Kentucky State Fair will be the following week. In the end, we decided to head up north and attend the Rushville Show. We got up early this morning, and made our way to there.
Doug and I convinced the kiddos to partake in the pedal pull today (as there wouldn't be as many kiddos today compared to tomorrow). They break the classes by age - boys and girls together.
Reba ended up placing 3rd in the 5 year old group
And Dallas placed 2nd in the 7 year old group!
This year, instead of medals, the winners were able to chose a prize in the gift shop. First place got a hat and a t-shirt, second place had a choice of a hat or a t-shirt (Dallas picked a t-shirt), and third received a show souvenir button.
After the pedal pull, we visited Uncle Junior at his tent. While the adults chatted, the kiddos climbed on the tractor (which Junior recently finished restoring; it had been his dad's/Doug's grandpa's)
We stayed busy all day between riding lawn mowers, walking the flea market, eating ice cream, and watching the tractors drive by. We stayed late and enjoyed watching the spark show.
In addition to getting our kiddos back, we headed north to attend the Pioneer's Engineers Club in Rushville. We had two jammed packed and fun-filled days at the show. Enjoy the photos!
On Saturday, Reba participated in the straw game. Various coins were scattered in a pile of straw, and the kiddos got to keep whatever they found. Reba ended up finding $1.50 in quarters.
Then it was time for the parade. This year the feature tractor was Massey in conjunction with the National Massey Show. Our friends, the Schenk's, made the trip with Carla's parents and tractors! Ciara and Mattison decided to sit with us during the parade. They loved waving when Poppy, Mamaw Jo, and their parents rode through.
The weather couldn't have been more perfect this past weekend. It was warm and sunny, but not hot and muggy. Of course, we still enjoyed a few ice cream cones!
Later in the day, Daddy borrowed a friend's tractor and wagon and we all went for a ride
After spending the entire day at the show, we decided to stay into the night for the Spark Show!
I'm not sure of the whole logistics of how it works, but the steam engine operators put something into the funnels and sparks are thrown into the night!
There were 3 or 4 steam engines participating in the show. In the picture below, you can "see" the fly wheel on the side of the engine that would catch the sparks and then throw them along the belt that was hooked up to it.
We headed back on Sunday morning for more fun! While looking around in the machine shop area, we got to talking to this gentleman that built a scale-model steam works that actually ran off a toy steam engine. He also had this saw mill that ran on a toy steam engine, and he let Dallas run the mill!
Here's a video of Daddy running the mill...
Reba decided she wanted to search for more coins so she could buy an ice cream, and Dallas thought that was a great idea - so he joined in too.
Unfortunately, Dallas dropped what coins he found back into the straw. Luckily though, Pa-paw had a pocketful of coins that he gave to the Big D, and he was able to get an ice cream.
Reba didn't quite find enough change to add to the previous days earnings, but Pa-paw helped out there too.
As we were packing up to head home, Dallas was insistent that the stroller ride on the trailer!
This weekend is the Classic Iron Show at the Vanderburgh County Fairgrounds. Last year, we took the Oliver and enjoyed multiple days at the show. This year, we are only going one day and left the Oliver at home, but Pa brought along his Wheel Horse and wagon to put around the show!
Aunt Josie and Julianne
Julianne had a grand time at her first tractor show!
One last photo before going home
While at the show, I was able to browse through the flea market area, and came across these jars to add to my collection...
Based on the script writing of "Ball", these jars date between 1910-1923. If you can't tell, they are both blue color. I really liked the one above because "PERFECT MASON" is off-centered and higher on the jar. I have not seen one like that before. Is it an imperfection? I don't know. The jar below, I liked because of the vertical lines that go around the jar. Also, I liked the way the tail of the second "l" in Ball sharply comes back.
A few weekends ago, the kiddos headed north to attend the Brookville Tractor Show and Hope Heritage Days Parade with Pa, Gram and Aunt Josie.
Enjoy the photos, and video, Aunt Josie shared with us!
The kiddos keep talking about this pig that a lady was walking around like a pet dog!
If it's pink and a tractor, my Little Miss is in LOVE!
Dallas' favorite part of the Brookville Show is the Pedal Races. You might remember him participating last year. Unfortunately, he didn't win this year, but still had fun!
As I mentioned in the last post, we were heading out of town and needed to get the tomatoes canned. Where were we going? To a tractor show! We left that Friday afternoon once Dallas was out of school. When we arrived at Gram and Pa's house, Aunt Josie was excited to show Dallas this picture of a half-scale 1206...Dallas' current tractor obsession.
We made it to the show on both Saturday and Sunday...here a few photos
The kiddos thought it was funny to see a dog driving a lawn mower!
I think Cockshutt was one of the featured tractors
Reba hanging with Aunt Josie
Dallas getting ready to take Daddy for a ride...
but first they had to pick up Reba too
At point, the kiddos were playing a rock pile, and Reba insisted on taking this "little" one home...
Dallas thinks this should be the next project for Daddy and Pa to work on...
This past weekend was the tractor show in Evansville. We have been the last couple years, but this year Daddy decided to take the Oliver! Before heading out Friday morning, Dallas thought we needed a picture of the Olivers together...all cleaned up and ready to go
Since we don't have a trailer to haul the tractor (and the fairgrounds is less than 20 miles away), Daddy and Dallas drove there!
Pa, Gram and Aunt Josie came down Friday evening to join in the fun. We grilled hot dogs for supper, and then made s'mores for dessert!
Daddy, Dallas and Pa roasting marshmallows
Reba and Gram roasting a marshmallow
While loading the trucks to go home for the evening, I convinced Reba to roll down this hill!
On Saturday morning, we used the ramps to unload Pa's wagon. As soon as the wagon was out, Reba was climbing up and sliding down the ramps!
A tractor show wouldn't be complete without a little pedal pull action. Luckily, the club broke the classes so that Dallas and Reba were in different age groups.
Reba won the 2-3 year-old class!
Yep, she won by a landslide!
And, Dallas won the 4-5 year-old class!
(I'm working on the videos of the kiddos' pedaling, and will put them up later in the week)
After the pedal pulls, we drove through the lawn and garden tractor displays. This "4-wheel drive" was a favorite of Dallas'
We also watched some of the garden tractor games. When we arrived they were finishing the "limbo"
Check out how low these guys can go...
Sunday was a much more relaxed day. There wasn't much of a crowd, and the weather was very overcast. Pa, Gram and Aunt Josie headed back to our house with the kiddos after lunch, while Daddy drove the Oliver home and I followed with the truck. Our company left early evening, then we had a quick supper, and before 7:30 ... this guy was sleeping!
Dallas was having so much fun all weekend, that he did not nap for 3 days. I'm sure he will be trying to catch up over the next couple days :)
