Corn Harvest '14

Daddy's work group finally made it to the Poseyville location to harvest this week, and yesterday, they had 3 combines in the field!  Therefore, I picked Dallas up from school, and we made our way to the field.

As soon as we arrived at the field, one of the combines was unloading!
Dallas and Reba couldn't get out of their seats fast enough
We then found out which combine Daddy was running and set up our camp to watch

There he is!

The pass that we saw Daddy complete was his last round in the field, so we watched him unload...
...and then we followed him to the cooperator's farm to load the combine so he could head north to the next field!
Until next time...

Fall Harvest

Last week Daddy was harvesting close to home, so one afternoon I took the kiddos out to watch the combine run for a while.

When we got to the field, we could hear the combine, but we couldn't see it...
It wasn't too long before Daddy emerged from the corn rows and went to dump in the semi
Then, he made a detour and swung by to wave at the kiddos!
He did stop to talk for a few minutes, but then it was back to work.  We stayed and watched for a couple hours, and then Daddy was in a part of the field where we couldn't see him anymore and the kiddos lost interest.

Until next time...

Chug a lug a luggin’ 5 miles an hour...

...On my International Harvester New Holland Combine

Last week, Daddy was harvesting at the Poseyville field, so I surprised the kiddos by taking them to the field so they could watch the combines.
Reba insisted that I take picture of her new shoes for all the blog followers to see...
Here comes Daddy!
Daddy took a break and ate supper with us, and then he was back to harvesting

Yes, we ended up staying until it was dark...the kiddos just didn't want to leave.  Then, the farmer (who happens to be a friend from church) came to move the semi off the road and into the field.  He asked the kiddos to help him.  They were in 7th Heaven!  When Farmer Frank started up the semi, Dallas smiled and said, "Just like on Smokey and the Bandit."  Farmer Frank even let Dallas pull on the air horn, which he was pretty excited about as well.

Watching Daddy dump into the trailer one more time before heading home...
Aunt Katie - do you recongize those hats?  I only let them wear them in the van...
Oh, and here's a video that Aunt Josie captured the other weekend of the kiddos singing...International Harvester by Craig Morgan

Farm Machinery Show

Last Friday, Doug took the day off work, and we all headed to Louisville for the National Farm Machinery Show (or "Farmery Show" - as Dallas kept calling it)

We hadn't been there too long when Miss Reba decided it was nap time.  She tried falling asleep laying back, but big brother kept elbowing her in the head...she showed him!
Dallas recognized the Kinze logo right away!

Reba spotted the big bull from a distance and wanted to go see him, but refused to get her picture taken with him!  Dallas, on the other hand, jumped at the opportunity.
We didn't quite make it through to see the entire show, but we had to make sure to find the Monsanto booth to see the chopper built by Paul Jr of American Chopper!

Finally, we found a combine that didn't have a waiting line for the kiddos to climb up and a take a "ride"

Until next time...

Fun Friday Foto

While playing outside yesterday, Dallas asked Reba if she wanted to go for a ride.  She agreed, and climbed on the back of the combine.  It makes me smile when they play together so well...even if it only last for one lap around the garage.

Until next time...

Combine Ride

Yesterday, while visiting after church, my friend Carla's father-in-law was kind enough to offer the kiddos a combine ride.  Needless to say, they were very excited and did not stop talking about it yesterday afternoon or this morning!

They had a wonderful time, so thanks again Jerry!

Reba ready to go - wearing her first pair of Carhartt bibs
Quick side note/picture - here's Dallas wearing the same pair of overalls at just over 1 year old!

Apparently we were taking too long to get going, so Dallas thought he would just drive to the field
Waiting and watching
There they go
Having to empty another load
Sorry, I know it's not the best picture - Reba had been sitting on the lunch box and Dallas is in Doug's lap
Until next time...

Ahh...Fall

Just like many of my friends have posted, I love fall.  I love the changing of the leaves.  I love wearing sweatshirts and jeans.  I love the warm sunshine in the afternoons and the cool evenings.  I love campfires and s'mores.  I love harvest.
That's why I was excited to see the farmers arrive yesterday to start on the bean field behind our house.  Of course, they came right as the kiddos were going down for naps; needless to say, Dallas did not take a very good nap.  After Reba woke up, we headed outside to catch a ride.

Dallas got the original bucket seat (which is where I used to ride when I was his age), while Reba and I got the buddy seat.
As you can tell, Reba was super excited about her first combine ride...

We rode for about an hour, and then Reba got too restless.  Hopefully, we can catch another ride when the farmers come back to harvest the corn field beside the house...

Until next time...
