Happy Thanksgiving

I just wanted to drop a quick note to say "Happy Thanksgiving"! We made it to Indiana on Tuesday evening. The trip was great. Dallas slept about half the way and was playful and talkative the other half. We tagged along with my parents to a basketball game that evening...Southwestern vs. Edinburgh. On Wednesday, I made 4 pumpkin pies for the family dinners. Thursday was the big turkey feast. We joined Doug's family for the noon dinner and a few games. In the early afternoon, we headed back to my parents' house for a second dinner. I did remember to take some pictures, but I don't have the cable to transfer them to the computer. So...you will have to wait until I'm back in Iowa to see pictures. Tomorrow (Friday), I hope to do a little Christmas shopping and then, another dinner in the evening. Saturday, we have one more dinner, and then it's loading the truck and heading west on Sunday.

Pictures

Dallas got to try his first scrambled egg this last week. He really liked it...especially since he was able to feed himself.
We have the best dogs in the world! The boys are excellent with Dallas.
This was a great shot of Dallas' top teeth when I took it last week. Only, they are not this little anymore! Happy Thanksgiving!

Until next time...

Videos

These may not be the best videos, but they will give you a glimpse into what our little guy can do!

We can hardly wait for Thanksgiving! Hopefully, the weather is good for our travels. I am going to apologize now for the lack of posts in the days to come. I will try my best to catch up quickly after Thanksgiving. Cross your fingers that I remember to take pictures!

Until next time...

p.s. just to let you know...it took me practically all day to upload these videos! My internet connection has been very crazy today.

I Want to Watch a Movie

Last night while making dinner, Dallas decided he wanted to watch a movie. So, he got himself over to the TV cabinet and found where we keep the movies.

This is just a random one of Dallas trying to eat his feet! He doesn't do it too much any more, so I had to capture it before he stops altogether.
I'm still trying to get a video of him sitting himself up...I didn't forget!
Until next time...

This just in!

Dallas can sit himself up!!!!

I was in mid-diaper change when the little dude rolled on to his side, and sat himself up like he had been doing it for years! I laid him back down to see if he would do it again...and he did! He did it one more time, and then I thought to get the camera to see if I could catch a video...and he stopped! I will try later.

Until next time...

Purdue vs. Iowa

If anyone is watching the Purdue football game today...look for Doug! Yep, he is at the game. He is actually working as "secruity" with the Knights of Columbus. He gets to check peoples' bags and what not as they enter the stadium, walk up and down the stairs making sure people behave, and guard the field during half-time and after the game. Of course, he also gets to watch the game (for free). Hopefully, he doesn't freeze! It is a cool 33 degrees (wind chill of 23) today with the chance of snow before noon. Let's hope PU can pull out a victory!

Rocking Chair Ghost?

Movin'

My little man has decided that he can't sit still any longer. This morning, he was all over the living room. He was not technically crawling, but he was not always rolling...so I guess he is in the creeping or scooting stage. If that makes sense! He will occasionally pull himself up on all fours. I was able to capture it on camera. Notice what he is after? Guess I'll have to start some baby-proofing!

Until next time...

8 Months Old

OK, so I am a day late, but I know you really won't mind. Dallas had his 8th month birthday yesterday. He is growing and changing all the time. Which, I'm sure all you other moms know how that is. He has started to get up on all fours and rock a few times, but no forward movement. He is also starting to grab on to things like he wants to pull himself up. I guess I should continue to enjoy these last few moments of him not getting into things!

As far as his growth stats...I'm guessing he is around 21 or 22 pounds and probably close to 30 inches tall. Again, these are just estimates. I tried sitting him on our scales, and they read 19 pounds! I know that can't be true, he hasn't lost weight since his last check-up... wait, does that mean my weight is off as well? Nahh...

I have also tried taking a tape measure to see his height, but he pulls on it and wiggles too much! I guess you and I will have to wait until his next well-baby check-up on the 12th of December for the accurate measurements.

So...until then, just enjoy the pictures and know that he is definitely a growing boy!

What are you doing, Mom?Dallas' latest trick...sticking out his tongue!
Cheese!
Here's one of Doug when he was 8 months old...
There might be a slight resemblance...

Veteran's Day

Thank you to all men, women and families that have sacrificed so much for our country and our freedom.

God Bless You.

Thanks for Coming!

This past weekend my Grandpa and Gram Bergman and Aunt Josie came to visit! I had such a wonderful time with them. Gram and Aunt Josie even got to watch me on Saturday while Mommy went with Daddy and Grandpa to the toy tractor show. Daddy said it would be too crowded for me to go along, and it was very cold on Saturday. Here are some pictures from the weekend!

Gram brought me lots of winter clothes, toys, and books. There were a couple new hats, but I had to wear them both in order to cover my ears!
Gram gave me a bath before church on Sunday morning. Usually, I take my baths in the bathtub, but with only one bathroom in the house, it was easier to take my bath in the sink. Especially since everyone else was using the bathroom to get ready!
I read Gram some of my books...
Ooooo...I would love to play with that toy!
Grandpa and Gram got that planter for Daddy for his birthday...he would not let me play with it though.

Mommy and Daddy bought me a new sweatshirt at the toy show!
{Note: if you click on the picture, it will enlarge and you will be able to see my top teeth!}

One of the toys in the bin Gram brought! I now have my own cell phone!
It was too cold to ride on Daddy's big tractor, so Mommy took me for a ride in the house!Love,
Dallas

Thursday's Tale

We have had an adventurous day! It started with Charlie waking me up a little after Doug left for work (6:30 a.m.) with the sound of him getting sick on my bedroom floor. My only thought as I was crossing the room to get to the light switch was "please don't let me step in it!" I didn't.

Since I was wide awake from cleaning up, I thought I might as well stay up. I got my breakfast, turned on the TV, and then, Dallas woke up. I could hear him happily babbling, so I decided to finish my breakfast before getting him. {I was hoping he would go back to sleep, but no such luck.} After getting the little guy out of bed, I made him breakfast...peaches and rice cereal. If you remember, a few posts ago, I mentioned that Dallas has been putting his fingers in his mouth while eating. This morning, he decided to dive his hand into the bowl before putting his fingers in his mouth. I immediately reached for the napkin, but I then decided he has to learn to get food to his mouth at some point. I moved the bowl closer to his reach and let him have at it! Good thing he was due for a bath! I did continue to get a few spoonfuls in his mouth, but a lot of the cereal went on him. He even put the bowl on his head at one point. {I wasn't fast enough with the camera}

Here he is after finishing breakfast. You can't really see the cereal in his hair as well as I was hoping.
After eating, I got Dallas in the bathtub. He is really enjoying baths - splashing around and playing with the toys. I just wish it was warmer in the bathroom, I had to pull him out {while still playing} because he was getting cold. While I was giving him a bath, I heard Charlie getting sick again - another reason I had to pull Dallas out of the bath. I quickly got a diaper on him, wrapped him in a towel and put him in the playpen so he wouldn't go too far while I cleaned up.

I got Dallas dressed, finally, and thought he looked too cute so I had to take pictures...here they are...
Check out those fangs!
Playing with a toy I found in his drawer today. He is getting so tall!
The little guy is working very hard at trying to sit himself up. He's almost got it! He isn't making too many attempts at crawling, but can roll where ever he needs to go.
While doing my little photo shoot, Charlie got sick once more. Yes, if you are keeping track, that is three times today! I wish I knew what was wrong with him. He goes on these spurts where he gets sick multiple times a day for a few days, and then he is good for months. The last time he did this, I took him to the vet, and they tell me to take his food away for 24 hours...and it usually does the trick. Does anyone else have this problem?

OK...so continuing our day. Dallas and I had chiropractor appointments this afternoon. Dallas laughed the entire time while getting his adjustment. I guess he thought Doc was tickling him! Doc said I wouldn't need to come back for another month, but I went ahead and scheduled an appointments right before and right after Thanksgiving. The 7+ hour drive in the car gets me every time.

After the chiropractor, Dallas and I went to the family doctor for our flu shots. Doug got his yesterday at work - they get it free. Dallas and I could have gotten one there, but our insurance pays for one from the doctor's office. Dallas did great! He gave a little whimper and that was it. He even smiled at the nurse as I was re-dressing him!

Tonight, I have religious education class at church. I should probably get off here so I can look over my notes. Tomorrow is another big day. Dallas has a therapy appointment in the morning, and then, Grandpa and Gram Bergman and Aunt Josie are coming for the weekend. The National Toy Farmer Show is in Dyersville this weekend, so Dad and Grandpa will be spending some time there while Gram and Aunt Josie spoil Dallas!

One more thing ... I was told twice today that Dallas looks like me! Of course, the ladies that said that haven't met Doug, but still...maybe he is getting some of my good looks :)

Sorry for the extremely long post.

Until next time...

Election Day

We did it. Both Doug and I voted this afternoon. We stopped by the voting location on our way into town after lunch. Luckily, there was no line. Then, we found out that we were not listed at the location, and had to go to another room for the "rural" voters. Luckily, there was no line there either. I signed in and received my ballot (we still use paper and pencil here). I headed for the table to begin the process when I overhear the register lady tell Doug that he must still be listed with the Ladora address. I took Dallas while Doug went back to the truck to get the vehicle registration with our current address so he could change it and vote. Dallas tried helping me vote...he kept grabbing the paper and trying to eat it! Then, he started babbling ... telling everyone who I was voting for. Thankfully, the majority of them didn't understand his language!

All in all, everything went well. Now, it is the waiting game to see the results.

Until next time...

Fall Fun

Hello All!

We had a beautiful fall weekend, and luckily, we were able to get outside and enjoy it. On Saturday morning, Doug worked for a few hours, and Dallas and I made some pies for our church's fall dinner. On Saturday afternoon, we did some outside work (i.e. play with the boys, mow the lawn, trim some flowers). We then finished off the day with the grocery shopping and the Wal-Marting that we postponed Friday.

Sunday morning started with us going to church, and then we finished the mowing. I had volunteered to wash the towels from the fall dinner, so we decided since I was driving back to Belle Plaine, we might as well eat at the fall dinner. It was delicious! We had turkey, mashed potatoes, dressing, gravy, corn, green beans, sauerkraut, and many desserts to choose from. It definitely put me in the mood for Thanksgiving dinner! Dallas even ate a few of the green beans, a small piece of turkey, and a bite of mashed potatoes.

After the dinner, we decided to finally hang a swing for Dallas. I know you are probably all thinking..."It is almost winter, why hang the swing now?" Very good question, and I really don't have a great answer besides - better late than never. We ended the weekend by watching the Colts beat New England! Enough of my gabbing...here are some photos!

Dallas loves to put his fingers in his mouth when he eats. I think he likes the textures of the food, or maybe, he just likes to chew on fingers. How many fingers can you get in your mouth?

Could I get a push?
There's Mom with that camera again.
Wheee!
This is fun!

Well, I'm off here to finish enjoying the weather...the weatherman said we could see snow this weekend...best enjoy the 70 degree weather while I can.
Until next time...
