(Great) Grandpa's Birthday

My Grandpa Robertson turned 90 last weekend.  We all gathered at Gastof Amish Village earlier today to celebrate, and it so so wonderful how many family members turned out for his party!

Sugar loved the fried chicken.
Little Miss and Big D loved the ice cream and desserts!

They also had an awesome time playing with their cousins
As well as meeting the newest ones

Near the end of the party, we gathered everyone around the birthday boy for a few photos...

More Chicks?!?!

I let Doug and the kiddos go to Rural King without me...and what do they come home with?  A box of chicks!
Now, I will cut him a little slack because they were "free".  Currently, RK is running a sale on straight-run chicks where you get the full amount back in form of in-store rebate.

There are 6 new chicks, 5 of them are bantams and the other one is a guinea.  Doug was feeling kind of sorry for Reba because the one bantam chick we hatched died not too long after it was moved to the garage.  There were a couple more that hatched in our second batch, but none of them made it past a day.

Doug also came home with this adorable picture...

Bath Time Salon

I had Julianne in the bathtub by herself, so we had a little fun with her hair!

Church Progress

You might remember back in early January when I talked about our church undergoing renovations?  Well, today, the church posted some pictures of the progress on its Facebook page.  I thought I would share!  I LOVE the blue that has been added.

Bottle Time

This morning, Reba gave Ice Cube his entire bottle by herself.
And as soon as Dallas came home from school, he was out in the pen giving the little one its afternoon bottle!

Baby, It's Cold Outside

We have a small pen in the barn with a handful of chickens in it.  It doesn't have a nesting box for the hens, so we use 5-gallon buckets.  Doug went to check on the animals this morning before leaving for work.  He sent me the following picture...
Yep, that's all 3 of our cats in one of the buckets!  Apparently, they needed each other's body heat to stay warm.

Movin' on Up

We decided that the chicks were big enough to move out of the basement and into the garage.  They were starting to change the aroma in the basement, and we have a few more eggs yet to hatch; therefore, we needed the space.
Dallas was more than willing to load the chicks into a box, carry them to the garage, and place them in their new home.  Doug and I are so thankful that he loves to help!

Meet Ice Cube

Earlier this week, Pa-paw had a lamb born and his momma couldn't take care of him, so Ma-maw has been taking the little guy with her to work this week in order to try and save him.  Ma-maw gave him the name Ice Cube since he was so cold and weak when they started feeding him a bottle.  Pa-paw called Dallas and Reba to see if they would take care of him, and of course, they agreed.  Today, we headed out to meet Pa-paw, Ma-maw and Aunt Lisa in order to bring Ice Cube home.

I snapped this picture of the trees on our way back home.  It had been snowing pretty heavily on the drive there, but had stopped by the time we were heading home.
Once we got home, the kiddos were finally able to get their hands on the little guy.
Little Miss had to get her turn holding him.
Both Dallas and Reba are very eager to help with his feedings.
Think they will be this excited at 2 a.m. when he needs to be fed?
Julianne wasn't quite sure at first what to think, but she is warming up to him.
Ice Cube in his new pen (he is in the garage, not in the house! unlike at Ma-maw and Pa-paw's house)

More of the Baby Chicks

Our first round of chicks are done hatching!  They are so incredibly cute and fluffy the first week or so.  I tried taking up-close pictures of each one, so I can maybe later compare how much different they look once their adult feathers come in...

Our one bantie chick that survived is in the center.
Sugar loves to go over to the tub and admire the babies

These two chicks were hatched from green eggs.
And the older two love getting them out playing with them, too.

#PrezDaySnow

We woke up this morning to a beautiful snow covering!  Today was a snow make-up day; therefore, the kiddos were not scheduled to go.
Thankfully, the temps were bearable this morning, and Daddy had a work delay.  Everyone bundled up and headed outside.

Charlie and Fred were loving the snow too!  Fred even pulled the kiddos around on their sleds.

We don't have much of a hill for the kiddos to go sledding on, so we improvise and pull them halfway down the slope in the backyard.  In the picture, Doug is letting go of Dallas, and he can then make it the rest of the way to the barn (where I'm standing and taking the picture)

Shortly after taking the picture of all three kiddos, Julianne went in for a cat nap.  I headed inside after the sledding, but looked out the back window to see Daddy pulling Dallas and Reba on their sleds.
Unfortunately, Big Red (the lawnmower) didn't like the cold and stopped running!
The ultimate supervisor back at work...
During this time, Daddy got a call from work that the station was closed for the day due to the snow.  The kiddos were super excited to have him stay home and play all day!

Later in the afternoon, we were back outside, and Dallas commented on the snow that was falling.  It was amazing how defined each snowflake was...
And finally, what's a snow day home from school and work without a snowball fight?
Until next time...
