Foto Friday

All week the weatherman had been saying the temps for Thursday would be in the 90's with high humidity. Well, when we watched the morning news yesterday, the weatherman had changed his tune. It only got to the low 70's and was cloudy all day! My friend Laura called me up and invited Dallas and I to the Iowa County Fair with her and her boys. We gladly accepted!

Here is Dallas (in long pants and a long sleeve shirt on July 9th!) trying to get the courage to pet the calf.
He loved the cows! (He did finally pet it)

We stopped to watch the dairy cattle show.

Dallas also loved the sheep barn and the horses. But...I didn't get pictures there.

When we got home, he went straight to his tractor...only he had a little trouble getting it out.

Finally, this morning...Dallas found his new bath towel from Aunt Josie and decided to carry it all around the house!

Butter Michael or Not

OK...some of you may know that Iowa State Fair is famous for the Butter Cow. It has been a long standing tradition for I don't know how many years...you can read more about it here. This year, in honor of the 40th Anniversary of Neil Armstrong landing on the moon, they are doing a butter sculpture of him as well. Then, there was the sudden passing of the King of Pop (Michael Jackson), and they decided to immortalize him in butter too. Well...someone got mad and raised a stink about it. The state fair has now put it up to a vote - to butter Michael or not.

I'm not really a Michael Jackson fan, but Doug was SUPER excited when he first heard they would make the sculpture of Michael Jackson. Now, he is upset at the possibility that there may not be one. So...get to the point Rajean...if you would like to vote simply click here - http://www.iowastatefair.org/entertainment/butter-vote.php. This will lead you to the Iowa State Fair page where you would have to enter your vote, your email address, and zip code. I have already submitted my vote and haven't received anything from the fair website (if you are concerned about spam mail).

Week 21

I gave you the update yesterday about baby Gertie...so there isn't much new to post other than my growing belly!
*I should have moved the desk chair...it is definitely adding to my rear end!!!

Just a couple pics

Dallas loves to climb and play on his pedal tractor. Today, he figured out how to sit backwards and push himself across the room. This saves Mom from a lot of back pain!
He also loves to "honk" the horn!

Lastly, the flower arrangement I made today. These lilies are from my flower bed. I also have yellow and pink ones, but the dark purple are my favorite. To fill up the vase, I added the flowers from my hostas. It didn't turn out too bad!

On a side note...I had a check up with Dr. Smollen today for baby Gertie. Everything is going great. I have gained a total of 6 pounds since my first appointment, and my blood pressure was pretty low today as well (94/68!) Dallas and I were able to hear the loud, strong heartbeat. Dr. Smollen said it was about 150-160 beats/min. That's about where Dallas' was the entire pregnancy as well. I think it's a pretty normal range. This Friday is our ultrasound...so you can look forward to some new Gertie pics at the end of the week. Other than that, I go back on Aug. 5th for the next check up!

Happy 4th of July

We had a wonderful weekend with Doug's parents and sister. They arrived on Thursday evening...just in time for our bonfire and hot dog roast.

Friday was spent at a tractor show in Marengo and a parade there that evening.

Saturday was rainy all day. Kind of a bummer for the holiday, but what can you do about it? Doug, Bob and I went to Belle Plaine to catch another parade (in the rain). We were able to come home with lots of candy though! We then headed back to Marengo to check out their car show. We caught our third parade of the weekend in Williamsburg Saturday afternoon.

Sunday was church, followed by breakfast out. The weather was great, so we spent lots of time outside.
