Introducing Reba Elizabeth Bergman

Here she is, the newest addition to the family. Reba was born around 7:20p.m. She weighed in at 7lbs. 4oz. and 20in. long. The parents are very excited as you can imagine and are very grateful to God that she is healthy! More pictures to come as Rajean takes back the reigns of the blog postings.

Men At Work

Tonight, we got the "new" crib put together. Doug even had a little helper.
After getting the crib together, we decided to make it Baby Gertie's bed. We had orignally planned on moving Dallas into this room, but we have now changed out minds. This crib doesn't set as low as the one Dallas is currently in, and we are afraid that he will be able to climb out. Plus, there is a shelf of tractors over the crib that he would be able to get his hands on very easily!

Until next time...

Baby Gertie Check-up

This morning, I had a check-up with Dr. Smollen for Baby Gertie. Things are progressing...I am dilated to a 2 and 80% effaced. Baby Gertie's heartrate was at 150 beats/min. And, Dr. Smollen assured me that Baby Gertie is head down. It is just a waiting game now!

This weekend Doug and I worked more on Dallas' new room. I cleaned out the junk in the closet, removed my clothes and put Dallas' in. I was also able to get the storage totes of clothes Dallas has outgrown in the closet. I put plastic on the windows to help cut down on the draft, and I hung new curtains in the room as well. Tonight after work, Doug is getting the 2nd crib from a friend. Hopefully, we will get it put together tonight as well, and Dallas can start sleeping in his new room.

Until next time...

Week 39!

Another week closer to due date.
I'm still feeling well, just getting anxious for Baby Gertie's arrival. I forgot to mention in my doctor appointment update post that we learned Dallas will not be able to meet Baby Gertie in the hospital...he will have to wait for us to bring her/him home to meet. The hospital is not allowing any visitors under the age of 18 during the flu season. Doug and I are really bumbed about this, but we also understand the precautions the hospital is taking. I learned from a friend in Kentucky, that is due in December, that her hospital is not allowing any visitors in the maternity area besides the father! Thankfully, my hospital is allowing adult visitors, but that is limited to 2 at a time.
Until next time...

Baby Gertie Update

I had a check-up for Baby Gertie today. Things are pretty much the same as they were on Friday. I'm still at a 1 and about 50% effaced, although Dr. Smollen did comment that the head was nice and low. She didn't say that last week. My blood pressure was back up slightly - 128/82, but the nurse was not concerned at all. She actually said it was really good. My weight was also the same as last week...probably all that walking kept off the pounds! The heartbeat was back up to 150 today. So, all in all, everything was good.

Dr. Smollen did bump up my next appointment from Wednesday to Monday. Let's hope I make some progress!

Until next time...

Pictures from the weekend

We had a very full and exciting weekend, and I think Dallas and I are finally caught up on our sleep! Friday started with a Baby Gertie check-up (which I already posted about). Thankfully, Doug was able to take the day off and go to the appointment with Dallas and I. After the appointment, we headed to Dyersville, IA, for the National Toy Farmer Show. It was a gorgeous day to be outside looking at toy tractors. We met up with Doug's mom and dad Friday afternoon and finished seeing the "outside" show.

Saturday, Dallas stayed with Gram at the house while Doug, his dad and I went back to the show. It was another beautiful day, so Dallas and Gram had lots of fun planning outside. At the show, we were able to start some Christmas shopping, as well as do a little purchasing for ourselves!

We bought Dallas a combine for his carpet farming operation (the child absolutely loves combines right now)
Can you tell he was very excited about his new combine?
Sunday started with church, followed by breakfast, and then it was back outside once again for another nice afternoon. Luckily, the Colts game wasn't being shown here so it was easier to get outside and not spend the day watching football! Doug borrowed the neighbor's ladder to clean out the gutters. I casually mentioned we hang the Christmas lights since it was so nice - and Doug agreed! Especially since he already had the ladder out.
We did turn them on for a short time Sunday evening to see how they looked, but I promise I will not turn them back on until after Thanksgiving!

To finish off the weekend, Doug got the Oliver out for a ride. Dallas was thrilled - especially when Grandpa and Gram hopped on for a ride too.
That's our weekend in a nutshell! I go tomorrow (Wednesday) for another Baby Gertie check-up, as well as an eye doctor appointment. I started wearing contacts again a couple weeks ago, and I have to do a follow-up to make sure the prescription is good and the fit is comfortable.

Until next time...

Update...

...Finally

I'm sorry for taking a couple days to get the update from my doctor's appointment. No, we don't have a new baby...I'm still very much pregnant!

My appointment went just fine on Friday. My blood pressure was back to normal - 122/78...I'm almost over this cough. My weight was only up a little - making me up 24 pounds since my first prenatal appointment. Baby Gertie's heartbeat was a little slower this week - around 140 beats/min. Last, but not least, my ankles still look great - as stated once again by Dr. Smollen!

Dr. Smollen did check me, and I was dilated to 1 cm. Starting to make a little progress, but not much. I go back on Wednesday for my next check-up.

I did a LOT of walking this weekend, so let's hope that helped things along. After my appointment on Friday, we (Doug, Dallas, and I) went to Dyersville, for the National Toy Farmer Show. We met up with Doug's parents and spent all day walking around looking at toy tractors and such. Then, Doug, his dad, and I went back on Saturday while Doug's mom stayed home and played with Dallas.

Other than that, we have enjoyed some GREAT weather this weekend. I'll tell more about it all in another post...as for now, I'm heading to bed - I'm one tired preggo.

Until next time...

Week 38!

Don't forget the baby pole...click here to submit your guesses!

Baby Gertie and I go to see Dr. Smollen tomorrow! I will let you know how that goes, but as for now, I'm doing well. I'm really starting to get to the uncomfortable stage. Not much longer until Baby Gertie will be here...so it is all worth it!

Until next time...

Week 37 (updated)

Let the countdown continue! Only 3 weeks until due date :)
Make sure you submit your guesses for the baby pole (see previous post).

Here is a little comparison of what I looked like at 37 weeks while pregnant with Dallas.
I am headed to the doctor this morning for another Baby Gertie check-up. Let's hope my blood pressure is down this time! I will update how it goes when I get home. I am feeling lots better, and not coughing as much as before, but sleep is getting very difficult. I just can't get comfortable. Oh, well...I guess I'm just preparing myself for those every 2-3 hour feedings!
Until next time...

Update: Everything went really well at the doctor this morning. Dallas got to meet The Cat in the Hat, and he even got a candy bar...lucky! As far as Gertie, all is good and growing. I have put on a few more pounds since my last visit, but my blood pressure was back down to normal! Baby Gertie's heartbeat was right around 150 beats/min...it is beginning to slow down, but s/he is still as active as ever. Dr. Smollen did comment once again how great my ankles looked...she is kind of crazy like that!

Baby Poll!

Can you believe it? Gertie's due date is only 3 weeks away! S/he will be here before we know it. Once again, I appreciate all of your thoughts, prayers, and support through this pregnancy. I feel so blessed in all that I have. Since we are getting close to the arrival, I thought I would start the baby poll.

Here is how you play:

1) Click on the comment link at the end of this post
2) Take a guess at what day Gertie will arrive
3) Take a guess at what Gertie's length will be
4) Take a guess at what Gertie's weight will be
5) Finally, take a guess if Gertie is a boy or girl!

Make sure to leave your name, especially if you don't have a blog log in name.

Here's how you can play if you don't have a log in: Leave your guesses, and then select the "button" for either -Name/URL or -Anonymous.

If you choose -Name/URL, then just type your name in the name box...You can leave the URL box blank.

Here are some helpful tips when thinking of your guesses. My due date is Nov. 19th - this has not changed during the pregnancy. With Dallas my due date was originally March 24th, then it was moved to March 4th. Dallas arrived March 11th - by induction. Dallas weighed 8 lb 8 oz and was 21.5 in long.

Hope you enjoy this! I will be excited to see your guesses!

Until next time...

Week 36

4 weeks until due date!!!
Now, as you look at this week's pictures...remember that I took these at 10:50 p.m. This was after canning applesauce and apple butter with a friend from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and after teaching my weekly religious education class. In other words, I'm a little tired.
I think Baby Gertie has shifted her* position...look how much farther my belly is sticking out this week!

I'm still feeling well, and I'm very excited about our trip to Indiana this weekend. Let's hope the weather cooperates and we can enjoy some sunshine (or at least some great fall weather).

Until next time...

*disclaimer: We do NOT know the sex of Baby Gertie. We just choose to say she or her instead of it*

Week 35

FIVE weeks until due date! or also known as 35 days - that's the one that somewhat scares me!
I had a check-up yesterday with Dr. Smollen, and everything is still going great. Baby Gertie is still just as active, even if she is running out of room. My weight was down a pound...how that happened, I'm not sure. But my blood pressure was still up...due to this cough I'm still hanging on to. Baby Gertie's heartbeat was right around 160, so that's good too.

At this point, Baby Gertie is just putting on more weight to build up her body fat for temperature control. According to one book I have it says, "...everything else, from her toenails to the hair on her head, is fully formed. If she were born now, she'd have more than a ninety-nine percent chance of surviving."
I'm feeling much better as far as this cold/cough is concerned. The medicine Dr. Boelter gave me last week has helped tremendously! I have been able to sleep a lot better - until last night when the leg cramps returned. Oh well.

I'm also feeling much larger these days, but that is expected at this point and time. I'm not too uncomfortable yet...just when I sit in the same position for an extended time, which only happens when Dallas is sleeping! Speaking of whom...I need to go check on him.

Until next time...

Week 34

Six (6) weeks until due date!
Baby Gertie is doing awesome...putting on weight just like s/he should be, and making my belly grow daily. Take yesterday for instance...I was on my way to the grocery store, and was making a turn, when my belly got in the way and I hit it with my hand! Dallas can hardly sit in my lap anymore...thankfully, he is content sitting beside me when we read stories.

As far as how I'm doing...well, I'm not even close to be over this cough. As a matter of fact, it has gotten worse. Monday, I developed some nasal congestion and drainage. The drainage last through Tuesday...I'm still dealing with the congestion. Yesterday, I noticed my tonsils were swollen and inflamed. Today, my ears became plugged. I have not slept very well the last two nights. I get wheezy when I lay down...like when I have an asthma attack, only the inhaler doesn't help. I am also very sore from my head to my stomach. I think it is from the constant coughing.

So...today, I called back to the doctor's office, and thankfully, my regular family doctor (Dr. Boelter) was in and she was able to see me this morning! She gave me a nebulizer (breathing) treatment, an antibiotic prescription, and a stronger inhaler prescription. She said that I should notice a difference by tomorrow afternoon...and if not, to call back and she would get another prescription for me. AWESOME! So, let's hope this helps.

Until next time...

Week 33

Warning: My hair and make-up lady were on vacation today.

How I am feeling: Pregnancy wise, I'm still doing good. My leg cramps in the middle of the night have not been happening near as much, and I'm only having to get up once to go to the bathroom. In general health, I'm not 100%. I have had a scratchy throat and cough for over a week now. At my OB appointment on Monday, Dr. Smollen did a strep test, but it came back negative. I have an appointment tomorrow with my family doctor to see if there is something else going on. I do not have a fever, nor do I have aches...just the cough and sore throat. It has not gotten worse, but it has not gotten better. Thankfully, neither Doug nor Dallas has picked it up!

As far as Gertie news, s/he is still very active - especially at night...s/he has been waking me up in the middle of the night with kicks and rolls and what not! Doug and I are still undecided on names. I guess when we hear the perfect one, we will just know!

I will be starting the "baby poll" in the near future. So, start thinking about weight, length, date, and gender!

Until next time...

Week 32

Hello all...I'm going to keep this rather short. Dallas just woke up from his nap, so I'm trying to publish this before he gets too mad (he is still upstairs in bed).

Here's the ever growing belly at 32 weeks...only 8 weeks until due date! I'm afraid this is going way too fast!
I am still feeling well, just getting more tired each day. I have reverted to the "sleep when the baby sleeps" theory. Therefore, I am not getting much done around the house during the day. Oh, and I am definitely beginning to waddle as I walk, too! Baby Gertie and I go for another check-up on Monday. Then the check-ups go to every other week.
Until next time...

Week 30

I'm Back! After a couple week's worth of absence, I'm trying to get back on schedule. I once again apologize to those that look forward to the weekly belly pics, but it has just been plain crazy around here!
Baby Gertie and I had our monthly check-up last Wednesday (Sept. 2). I also did my glucose screen at that point for gestational diabetes. I have not heard a thing back from the doctor's office...so we are assuming no news is good news. As far as the monthly check-up, everything is still on track. I was up a whopping 4 pounds since my last visit four weeks ago! I guess that means Gertie is growing.

This last weekend, I was also accused of stuffing my shirt to make my belly appear bigger in the pictures. I promise, this is not the case...I guess the camera really does add pounds!
All in all, everything is still the same: lots of movement from baby, energy level is going down, leg cramps in the middle of the night, and of course, not being able to find a comfortable sleeping position!
Until next time...

Week 28

I hope you didn't think I would go two weeks in a row without giving you a belly update!
Sorry, I turned more away from the camera this week...I guess you get more of a "rear" shot this time! As you might guessed, I have moved up to wearing Doug's t-shirts this week! Mine were getting to be too tight in the mid-section, thus causing them to be too short. Yes, I have maternity tops, but I refuse to wear my good shirts for just around the house - especially when I can be in a comfy t-shirt and lounge pants.
Things are still going great. I am very thankful to feel so well during pregnancy. I try to not take it for granted because I know there are others that are sick the entire time, drained of every ounce of energy, and experience major mood swings.

As for "what's happening with me this week" - here's what one book says: "You're getting larger [check], and as you grow larger, you become more uncomfortable [check]. Your legs may ache or cramp [check], it's hard to get a good sleeping position [check], and the baby is big enough to give you some sharp kicks to the ribs [check]!"
Until next time...

Pregnancy, Food, and Big D

Instead of three different posts, I am combining them into one.

Topic #1 - Pregnancy
I'm 26 weeks today! Sorry for the blurriness of the belly pic - the sun was at just the right angle to make it that way.
Not only, have I reached 26 weeks, but the count down until due date went under 100 days this week! Not much else is new in the preggo department other than Baby Gertie is a very active one. I sometimes think s/he is more active than the toddler I have running around the house! Doug has been able to feel some pretty good kicks from Gertie as well. Maybe one day, Dallas will hold still long enough to feel the baby move as well.
Topic #2 - Food!
Last night, we had a home-raised, home-made meal.
I made ka-bobs using lamb meat from one of my parents' sheep, along with tomatoes, onions and bell peppers grown in our garden! The sweet corn came from the patch Doug's group has at work. All-in-all, it was delicious (and cheap)!
Last, but not least
Topic #3 - Big D
Dallas turned 17 months old this past Tuesday. I am trying to refer to him as a toddler, but it is difficult not to call him a baby. I'm sure you other mom's out there are shaking your heads in agreement.

Dallas' newest trick - climbing up on the kitchen chairs. He looked like such a big boy last night drinking his milk in a big person seat (even if I couldn't get him to smile).
Until next time...

Week 25

Alright, I cheated and took the picture a day early. I had a check-up with Dr. Smollen today (Wednesday), so I was decently dressed and had my hair looking nice.
Baby Gertie is doing great. Dr. Smollen was so proud that I still "have my ankles" for being preggo during the summer. I said that I tried to pick the best summer to have pregnant (very little heat). Baby Gertie's heartbeat was slower today - about 140 beats/min...I think s/he was sleeping during the appointment. I go back in another month. With that appointment will be my gestational blood glucose screening. I'm not too worried about it...it's the hour long wait with a very busy little boy that concerns me. Maybe I'll get a babysitter for that appointment.
A little side note. Today, at the appointment, I weighed in at the same weight that I started at while pregnant with Dallas! Craziness.
Until next time...

Week 24

Gertie is still doing great and is still growing. I believe my belly has really grown in this last week - or maybe I just think that because it is starting to itch more. S/he is also becoming more and more active each day. Doug finally did feel a quick kick Tuesday evening...which was pretty exciting.

Here is the weekly belly pic...on my 27th birthday!
Grow baby, grow!
Until next time...
